What to Do During the Last Days of Summer in Lincoln

Lincoln’s Historic Haymarket

Now filled with quaint shops, high-end hotels, and great restaurants, the market was developed in downtown Lincoln in 1867 as a place to gather and sell produce and livestock. It’s still a gathering place for tourists and locals alike with the Saturday Farmers Market (May 16-Oct 10), Sunday Concerts (Sep 6-27), tailgating parties, art studios, and boutique shopping. Just need a place to chill? Sit on the covered patios and grab a beer or a coffee and watch the locals cruise around in their supped up cars. Want a moving bar party with your friends, try the Group Therapy Bike Tours. Also, don’t miss a night of cabaret, at Screamer’s restaurant, featuring live show tunes and a great menu.

Sunken Gardens & Lincoln Children’s Zoo

Want to escape from the stress and find some beauty in the middle of the city? Lincoln’s Sunken Gardens is free and open anytime. This multi-leveled garden is filled with beautiful flowers, sculptures, and ponds. Amazing flowers not enough? Why not add some art at Art in the Garden on Sep 12.

The Sunken Gardens is also located just across the street from the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. This small zoo takes only a couple of hours to wander the wilderness path, but it’s filled with some great animals. Feed the giraffes and camels, hang out with the cheetahs and giant aardvark, go on a pony ride, and ride the little red train. Currently, admission is limited to keep things safe, so book your ticket ahead.
